Autism Speaks met with the First Lady of Peru and organizations promoting respect for the rights of people with autism

Autism Speaks se reunió con la Primera Dama del Perú y organizaciones que promueven el respeto de los derechos de las personas con autismo 001

The government of Peru gave a big step when the First Lady of Peru Nadine Heredia and the vice ministers of Health, Education and Women met with the representatives of the world’s most important organization in autism “Autism Speaks” Dr. Andy Shih and Mr. Michael Rosanoff in order to talk about challenges and opportunities for collaboration in view of the issues facing people with autism in Peru.

During this meeting Dr Shih explained the Global Autism Public Health (GAPH) Initiative, whose mission is to increase autism awareness and recognition, service delivery, and research collaboration around the world. They were impressed by the interest shown by the First Lady of Perú and the authorities of the government to make future projects of collaboration with the objective to serve the children with autism in Peru.

They also met in the Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú-CASP, with 13 organizations such as AFPAC PERÚ, Alcanzando, Asociación Siempre Amanecer, ASPAU PERÚ, ASPAUC - Cañete, Autismo Perú, Avanzar, Centro Ann Sullivan del Perú, EITA, Olimpiadas Especiales, ONG Growing Happy, Soy autista, y que? and Recrearte that support quality education and promote the inclusion of people of the autism spectrum disorder in Peru.  This meeting allowed all of these institutions to share their successes, challenges and top priorities with the representatives of Autism Speaks.

It was an historic visit of Autism Speaks for families who have children with autism and professionals because Autism Speaks sent a clear message of hope that this international organization will help in the development of priorities the government decides are the most important for people with autism in our country.

Opening Cocktail of CASACOR PERU 2012: a resounding success of an event in aid of CASP

Cocktail inaugural de CASACOR PERÚ 2012 001

A mandatory meeting point of creativity and talent for architects, interior designers, decorators, plastic artists, art lovers in general and especially for altruistic people, was the opening cocktail of CASACOR 12012 PERU, held on Monday, September 25 at Casa Mujica and D’ Pardo, in the historic centre of Lima.

The cocktail, carried out since the first edition of this great annual design and decoration exhibition, was in aid of the Centro Ann Sullivan del Peru (CASP) to raise funds for education of our low-income students in order that they can learn to fend for themselves and become independent, productive and happy.

Dr. Liliana Mayo, founder and general director of CASP, Miki de Romaña and Ximena Salmón, the former and current president of the Support Committee, respectively, and some of our students, among other authorities, were responsible for welcoming all those present to the event.

On this occasion, the 17th Edition of CASACOR moved to the Historic Centre of Lima, where 52 rooms of decoration, design and landscaping, which add beauty to the 4,000 square meters of the Casa Mujica & Casa D' Pardo, may be visited.

Since 1996, the Ann Sullivan store takes part in this event and offers original decorative and utilitarian objects of exquisite taste for sale to the visitors. These ones include the Poland-made Borowski glass pieces and works of the renowned plastic artists Mariella Bohl, Chichi Uccelli and Jessica Rosenberg, ceramic from Kamminno al sol and Kus Art, among others. Also, ornamental plants such as the original and exotic terrariums and real orchids are exhibited.

@alonsomayo Update 9/23/2012:
"The Story of Luke"
Trailer & World Premier

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

This past year has been absolutely amazing for me because "The Story of Luke", a feature film project that is incredibly close to my heart, not only finished post-production and is less than a week away from having it's World Premier at the San Diego Film Festival (Saturday, September 29th @ 7:00pm), but because I couldn't be more proud of the outcome. I want everyone to see "The Story of Luke" to experience Lou Taylor Pucci's riveting lead performance, as well as Seth Green's, Cary Elwes' and Kristin Bauer's awesome supporting roles. And I want everyone to see "The Story of Luke" because we set out to make a fun, entertaining & heartfelt movie about a subject that probably doesn't strike most people as fun or entertaining, and we succeeded.

"Sheltered his whole life, Luke, a young man with autism, is about to embark on a quest for a girl and a job, and he won't be taking "no" for an answer."

This is just the start of our festival run and we are working hard to secure distribution but I would like to reach out to you and ask for your support for a handful of things you can do to help "The Story of Luke" right now:
